The Hunter At Sunrise Blog: It's the New Year...is there anything really New?

Written by Hunter Hughes.

Well, as a matter fact, there is something new. I just found out that Hunter At Sunrise has been nominated for a local music award again this year. The VEER Magazine Local Music Awards recognize not only local artists and bands, but also venues and media that support local music. I am very humbled by the fact that the show has been mentioned in the company of some great digital entities that truly support local music.  Thank you to the Veer Magazine judges.

The nomination also led me to think back to 20 years ago when I first began doing this show. It was Sunrise on The Coast then and we managed to do so much with local music.  We not only played locally produced records but also

The holidays are here....  And for some reason I am in a very reflective mood.  I feel I have so much to be thankful for that I just wanted to write about it.

The Hunter At Sunrise Blog: Storm? Did We Have a Storm?

Written by Hunter Hughes.

Well, of course we did and our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors in New Jersey, New York and all the other states affected by the mega-hurricane, Sandy.  It's been a rough week for everyone, but we should be thankful that everyone here locally seemed to get through it ok.  But for those in the Northeast, we hope you will remember them by donating to the Red Cross.

As you may know, we did not do a live show last Sunday.  But this weekend, live shows will return.  I must tell you, I need to get back to the flow of the show. I hope you will join me this Sunday from 7 to 11a eastern for another installment of Hunter At Sunrise....Oh, and by the way, don't forget to turn your clocks back one hour Saturday night.  We all get an extra hour of sleep...see, now you have no excuse for missing the show. :)

Take care,

HH

The Hunter At Sunrise Blog: How can We thank thee, Let Us Count the Ways

Written by Hunter Hughes.

No really...thanks to everyone who has called into WHRV with your pledges of support for local public radio during this express pledge drive (it's called express because they've cut it down to just a little over one week.)  I was on the air with Paul Shugrue on Out of the Box last Saturday and thanks to you, we finished early!  We made $13,000 last Saturday. Simply awesome. And now we have one less Saturday that WHRV listeners have to listen to me obliterate their names on the air when I announce the pledges. That was certainly a highlight.  But thank you, thank you... it's important to keep this kind of radio flowing in Hampton Roads where more and more, you're getting pre-programmed muzak from other stations (did I really say that? I guess I did.) All this said, I'll see you on the radio this Sunday morning.

Take care,

HH
